Three Sydney-based ceramic artists (Ursula Burgoyne, Jen Lyall and Montessa Maack), with considerable experience in woodfiring, were interested in learning from each other the detail of how they each fired three train kilns of similar dimension and design. Vicki Grima joined in having no kiln, some woodfiring experience and an avid international est to join in.
To do this research, the four artists fired the three kilns together, each time under the leadership of one member of the group: Jen Lyall lead the Glenorie firing; Ursula Burgoyne the Moruya firing and Montessa Maack the Strathnairn firing. Each firing contained work from the four artists, with the aim to have nine or ten firings.
